IA-27 PULQUI I (cont.)

Back \\

This was the jet engine used in Pulqui I, the Rolls-Royce Derwent V, the same kind of engine that powered the Gloster Meteor aircraft.

Unlike the German design JUMO 004 B (900 Kg thrust) that were used in the Me-262 Schwalbe, which had a small diameter thanks to their axial type compressor , the Derwent V got higher power (1633 Kg thrust) by usage of a big double centrifugal compressor, a simpler kind of device very well known in industry at that times, about which there were lots of technical data. The more complicated axial compressor had to wait for more studies until it replaced the centrifugal one.
